Active Session Banner & Bugfixes

June 19, 2026

A new dismissable active session banner replaces the redirect toast. It shows your current game, lobby, or tournament at the top of every page, with your own games floated to the top of the lobby.

We also fixed several bugs, and implemented some feature requests, like end-of-game subject count no longer jumping incorrectly, and space bar not re-requesting undo's.

AFK Detection & New Logo

June 5, 2026

We added AFK detection, an optional game and tournament setting. If a player goes inactive for 90 seconds, the game detects it and gives a 30s warning period before replacing them with the fallback AI.

On top of that: you can now join or create games while still being in another session, the fallback AI option now shows up on mobile during games, and we made a new logo with a crown. Button layout on the landing page and lobby were improved too.

Fix Undo crashes surrounding the AI

May 17, 2026

A mistake in our AI protocol caused an escalation where the whole game server would crash when a player undo'd a move while the AI was still calculating their move. This has now been fixed, and we apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused.

AI Difficulty Levels & QOL Improvements

May 13, 2026

We've added new AI difficulties, Medium and Hard, which consistently outperform the previous level (now called Easy). We spent around 100$ on cloud compute and completed over 3 million simulated games in order to improve the AI. The Hard AI beats the Easy AI in around 85% of games and beats the Medium AI in around 68% of games. The Medium AI beats the Easy AI in around 70% of games. We've further improved QOL by improving flag coloring, the chat experience and improving the time adding feature.

Desert Theme, Add Time & Undo Requests

April 9, 2026

Our biggest visual update yet is live: TileKingdom now wears a brand new Desert theme across the lobby, game UI, tournaments, news & changelog, and everything in between.

Alongside the new look, we've reworked the in-game experience. On mobile, the whole layout has been overhauled so that all important information is always concisely visible, no more digging through overlays. The desktop info panel got the same treatment for a cleaner, more compact view.

Two big new gameplay features: you can now request extra time or request an undo during a game, and all players get to approve. Left-click the add time button to grant 15 seconds, or right-click to pick any amount. An undo request lets you take back the entire move you just made, and if everyone agrees, the board returns to the state before your move.

The existing undo has also been extended: you can now undo your tile placement even when there are no subjects to place. In that case, confirm the placement with the green checkbox once you're happy with it.

Tired of waiting in the fast queue? You can now play against an AI while you wait. When a human match is found, you can jump in or keep playing your AI game. Active matches are also shown in the Lobby Hub so you can see what's currently being played.

Plus: partial scores during the game, confirmation before placing tiles and subjects, a slider for subject and flag scaling, and automatic updates in the lobby and tournament overviews, no more pressing refresh.

On desktop, the side panels are now draggable. Grab the handle at the edge of either panel to resize or collapse it, and double-click the handle to snap back to the default width. Your preferred sizes are remembered separately for normal games and tournaments.

We're releasing a small followup update. Lobby's & Tournaments now have chats. Further, we have introduced an alert system with a banner for the homepage when an official tournament is hosted.

Tournament Improvements & Fixes

April 1, 2026

On Saturday last week, we hosted our fist official tournament, and we had a blast! The final standings can be seen here:

First official tournament standings

Congratulations to awonga for taking the win. The next tournament will take place on Saturday, April 4th. Check the discord for the official announcement.

We fixed some of the issues that came up during the tournament, and made some improvements to the tournament experience for mobile users. We've also added a rules explanation so you can easily understand how tournaments work.

Several other fixes and improvements round out this update.

Tournaments & Bugfixes

March 18, 2026

We are launching our biggest feature yet: Tournaments! You can now create and participate in tournaments with custom settings, a swiss pairing system, and an in-game bracket view. We look forward to our first official tournament.

This update also adds Google authentication as a login option (which does nothing of purpose yet, besides for Matthias' and my account), along with several important bugfixes including chat hotkey conflicts and ghost lobbies.

Balance mode & Bigger tilesets

Feburary 5th, 2026

We just released an update that includes the option to multiply tile counts by a factor of up to 7. With this you can play to upto 504 tiles in total (when using balance mode).

We've also added a new balance mode, where 72 total moves have to be made instead of the normal 71 moves. The extra tile used there is a city cap.

Undo button & Bugfixes

January 21, 2026

We are excited to announce the much requested feature: the Undo button! It allows you to revert your last tile placement.

In addition to the Undo button, this update includes several bugfixes. We appreciate your patience and continued support as we strive to make TileKingdom even better.

As always, visit the whole changelog for more details. And this time, I'll really provide the option for different tile distributions in the next update.

Subject placement & QOL improvements

July 24, 2025

We just released an update with some quality of life improvements and bugfixes, most notably with a much needed improvement to the subject placement logic, and automatic scaling of elements placed on to the map when zooming out. Let us know what you think of these changes! As always, visit the whole changelog for more details.

The next update will bring the option to play with each tile twice, and we'll also try adding an optional balance mode where 72 tiles have to be placed onto the map in total.

Bugfixes, improvements & Roadmap

July 15, 2025

Another day, another maintenance based release. We improved a lot of annoyances such as the chat not losing focus when clicking on the map, subject placement logic resulting in non-intended moves, and layout issues preventing the stats & chat buttons from being visible on mobile devices.

We have some more maintenance issues to tackle, but after that we will start working on dynamic tile distributions and permanent user storage as well as tracking game statistics and leaderboards.
